Working closely with the Band Aid Trust, Barney conceived the idea of making U2 and Paul McCartney’s opening performance from the Live8 concert available as downloads in real-time.
Barney managed the team at Universal team that pulled together an incredible feat to make the song available in under 18 minutes on all download stores.

Barney led the emerging digital business of UMG ex-North America.
As part of his role, Barney led negotiations with Apple, Napster, Real, Vodafone, NTTDocomo and many more emerging digital music services.
Barney’s role also encompassed extensive support for UMG’s legal and government affairs teams with early digital litigation, legislation and government affairs.
ARM
It all begins with an idea.
Barney joined ARM working on ASIC projects for OEM customers.
Working closely with ARM’s hardware and software teams, Barney conceived a combined hardware and software solution that set ARM as the go-to standard for early MP3 players.
While at ARM Barney became an active member of the Secure Digital Music Initiative.
Surrey Medical Imaging Systems
It all begins with an idea.
SMIS was spun out of The University of Surrey to create imaging systems based on transputers and parallel DSPs.
Barney joined the team as part of his undergraduate industrial placement program and continued working for the business while completing his studies.
Acoustics at Surrey
Barney studied for a BSc in Physics with Acoustics at the University of Surrey
Surrey was the natural place for Barney because of their on-campus studio complex.
Club Promotions
Barney began his career promoting dance music events in Leeds, Bradford and Manchester.
Working closely with the team at KAOS and SOAK, they promoted multiple shows each week from 700-3,500 capacity.
